Backyard BBQ Battle: Griller vs. Griller (COMPETITION ONLY)

The BBQ Music Fest is accepting entries into Backyard BBQ Battle Competition. Contestants need to pre-register. Entries will be taken up to August 7, 2019 or until the BBQ Battle blocks are sold out. ONLY 20 TEAMS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

These teams will be allowed to compete only and are prohibited from selling directly to the public. However, you are allowed to pass out the leftovers in samples to the attendees as complimentary during dedicated sampling hours. No cash sales of food is permitted.

RULES:
Set up is on the day of the competition, Sunday, August 18, 2019 at 8AM. Teams will be assigned a 10’x10’ area.

ENTRY FEE: $150

3-4 Pork Rib Racks limit.

Maximum of 4 person team.

Teams are responsible for providing all needed equipment and supplies, including meat (3-4 full racks maximum), grill, utensils, chairs, pop up tent, sanitary items (gloves, wipes, napkins, trash bags, etc.), etc.

Wood, wood pellet, charcoal, and propane grills are permitted. Propane or electric starters are permitted. NO deep frying or parboiling allowed. NO holes or pits in the ground are allowed. NO power will be provided.

All competition meat shall start out raw (can be trimmed), and any seasoning and cooking shall be done within the assigned team area. Uncooked meat must be kept cold prior to cooking. All competition meat will be inspected upon arrival.

You may not bring alcohol into the festival site. However, alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase onsite for consumption though you may not take alcohol outside of the festival area.

JUDGING:
These teams will be eligible to compete for the Grand Title. Amateur Pitmasters will battle it out, but there will be ONLY ONE CHAMP! Entrants must submit eight (8) portions of meat (pork rib) in an UNMARKED approved container. An approved container for turn in will be provided by BBQ Music Fest.

On Sunday, August 18, 2019 the BBQ Contest will be held. Mandatory submission time is 2:30PM. Failure to submit at the designated time will result in disqualification from the contest.

The BBQ Music Fest uses a blind judging system. Four (4) official judges and four (4) judges of your peers (at random draw). Ribs are judged by a panel who examine the ribs for their appearance, taste and texture. Judging will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2019 at 2:45PM and will conclude with an award presentation on Sunday, August 18, 2019 at 5:30PM. A Grand Champion winner will be announced and a $500 Prize and trophy will be awarded for The Best BBQ Ribs.

Awards will be presented to the first (Grand Champion - $500 Prize), second (Reserved Grand Champion - $200 Prize) and third ($100 Prize) place teams that receives the highest scores. The undersigned agrees to abide by the official rules of O Entertainment to staff their booth during festival hours, to not drive vehicles on fairgrounds during festival hours, adhere to all electrical, fire, health and other codes whether local, county, state or federal, and to clean their booth space.

All gambling and illegal activity is prohibited.

Each BBQ Team is responsible for the management of their waste disposal to designated roll-offs onsite for the event. Disposal of trash into waste receptacles (trash cans) is prohibited.

BBQ Teams are responsible for their own parking permit. Parking is controlled solely by the City of Fountain Valley. The event offers free parking.
